3. What do you mean by ‘Not invented here’ syndrome?

* It is a philosophy or culture that avoid using or buying already existing products, research, standards etc. because of their external origin. * As a social phenomenon, ‘Not Invented Here’ Syndrome is manifested as an unwillingness to adopt an idea or product because it originates from another culture, a form of nationalism. * Reasons : Fear through lack of understanding, Unwillingness to value the work of others or because it is originated from another culture(Nationalism)

4. Competitors move regarding technology implementation

When a new innovative product or technology is implemented by a company, the competitor has to first analyse the moves and countermoves across the competitive environment, assess the outcomes with supporting financial metrics and select the best move to sustain and excel in the market. Evaluation of outcomes and selecting the move is very crucial.

5. History of scotch brite
Scotch brite is a product for 3M. While experimenting to make abrasives for brakes, accidentally scotch brite was invented. 3M didn’t want to lose the invested money on R7D and tried making sense out of the new product. They found this could be used for cleaning purpose and introduced into the market. 6. Who claims the maximum number of patents (firm wise and country wise)

7. Percentage of Patents by west to east
The number of applications for international patents fell by 4.5% in 2009 compared with the year before to 159,000 as companies in Western countries cut back on R&D spending during the recession. Yet applications from east Asian economies, including Japan and South Korea, increased slightly, while those from China soared by 30%. Since 2005 applications from China have grown by 210% as the country has developed a home-grown high-tech sector.
