Contemporary societies, governed by technology, knowledge and communication, demand citizens with appropriate competencies to integrate themselves in a globalized world which is in constant change. A major responsibility of the education system is that of providing students with opportunities to gain such competencies, for which students need to develop knowledge and skills in various key subject areas for the future, such as Information and Communication Technologies and Foreign Language.
The present project describes some of the principal dimensions of the process of education, emphasizing its conditions and transformation using the technology, from the perspective of different authors. There are indications that technology may be a positive factor in the learning process. In our own experience, when we use technology in our classroom, students pay more attention and they feel more enthusiastic in their learning.
The computer science introduction in the classroom gives place to a new field of educational innovation and it demands continuous transformations in professors, students, methodology, curricular design and the creation of educational software and new materials.
English language training and information technology skills are increasingly inseparable given the realities of globalization and recent advancements in educational technology. For example, a class that offers instruction in verbal communication includes training in the use of PowerPoint and graphics applications that can be used to enhance oral presentations. Written communications courses integrate word processing and graphics software training.
Many people warn of the possible harmful effects of using technology in the classroom. But technology becomes a tool for the development of higher order thinking skills. Technology can be used to perpetuate old models of teaching and learning. Students can be "plugged into computers" to do drill and practice that is not so different from workbooks. Teachers can use multimedia technology to give more colorful, stimulating lectures.
In this project, you will find descriptions of how computers can be used to stimulate and develop skills, collaborate with peers in foreign countries, do authentic kinds of research that is valuable to the adult world, and do complex kinds of problem solving that would otherwise be impossible.
In our country there are few researches being conducted on the impact of technology in the classroom and called upon researchers to accept the challenge. Some researchers, perhaps too few, have accepted this responsibility. Studies are finding that it is difficult to isolate technology as a variable in good instruction, but they are finding that in the right circumstances, technology plays a positive role in enhancing academic achievement.
In our Methodology class we observed some English teachers, classes were boring and students lost their attention very often. Some of the methodology that the teachers applied were conventional and students lost the interest in the class, some of them were yawing in the middle of the class and they started talking in their native language to their. Students weren’t forced to produce the second language, because teachers didn’t model languages examples. We think that these classes could be improved if teachers use more visual aids as well as listening and reading inputs through PowerPoint presentation for instance.
